From The Coast:

The idea to put together a compilation tape as a fundraiser for the much-loved center for everything artsy came from the brain of the Khyber’s director Dan Joyce, who appointed Ryan Allen (Cold Warps, Quivers) the project’s talent wrangler. And wrangle he did. After much hard work from many Khyber-lovers, the compilation boasts 19 new or unreleased tracks from the likes of DUZHEKNEW, Cousins, Mean Wind, Fuck Montreal and Bloodhouse. And R&B fans, fear not…Long Long Long’s side project Trash Heap made sure you’ll get your fix with their rendition of “You Make Me Wanna,” which Allen calls an “awesome treat.” Celebrate the release Saturday night and break out your tape deck in the name of the Khyber, people—48 minutes of cassette glory is just seven bucks. –Allison Saunders

From Exclaim!:

“Located in a historical building on Halifax’s Barrington Street, the Khyber Arts Society has been working with local artists and musicians since 1994. The art center was even immortalized on hometown hero Joel Plaskett’s decade-old album Down at the Khyber. Now, Halifax’s next generation of bands have come together for a cassette compilation to benefit the Khyber.

The Khyber Compilation, Vol. 1 features a wide array of upcoming talent in Halifax and local mainstays, from the ’90s-ready indie rock of Play Guitar and crushing, noisy garage of Bloodhouse to the outsider pop of DUZHEKNEW and the frenetic party rock of Cousins and so do Trash Heap, local heroes Long Long Long’s R&B side-project.

According to an official statement, all proceeds from the Khyber Compilation, Vol. 1 will go towards “the Khyber and all its future renovations, endeavors, aspirations, hopes and dreams.”
