Curated by Robin Metcalfe, this exhibition will be a presentation of the visual culture of early Queer activism in Halifax through the movement’s ephemera, such as posters, flyers, buttons, T-shirts, placards, props for demonstrations and drag shows. The exhibition is in two parts. The first is a remounting of Queer Looking, Queer Acting: Lesbian and Gay Vernacular, also curated by Robin Metcalfe, which took place at the MSVU Art Gallery in 1997. This part of the show covers the period between 1972 and 1997 and will be mounted in the Khyber’s Ballroom Gallery.
The second part of the exhibition will include more recent but comparable material produced by the new generation of Queer activists thereby adding a present-day aspect to the show.
