The Khyber is currently accepting applications for three contract roles: Archives Coordinator, Technical Coordinator, and Engagement Coordinator. These positions are funded through Employment Nova Scotia’s Job Creation Partnership Program and have been designed to support the Khyber Stories Project. Please see project description, eligibility, how to apply, and job descriptions below.
Project Description:
The Khyber Stories Project is an oral history, archiving, and community arts engagement initiative that will take place from November 2026 to April 2027. The project will creatively document and preserve the Khyber’s contemporary cultural activity from the past 12 years since relocating from our historic Barrington Street site. While the legacy of the Khyber’s former home remains highly visible in public memory, the significant body of artistic production, exhibitions, and primarily 2SLGBTQ+, Black, Indigenous, and racialized community based cultural activity that has emerged since the relocation has had national influence across the past decade, but remains under documented within Nova Scotia’s contemporary cultural record.
Project activities will include public arts events and one-on-one oral history interviews, as well as the presentation of relevant materials from the Khyber’s physical archives housed at Dalhousie University. Additional work will include research and compilation of digital documentation, event records, and media assets across this past decade. Oral history and storytelling are central to the project methodology, as they provide essential tools for sharing lived experience, contextual knowledge, and community memory that are often not reflected in formal archival documents, ensuring these perspectives are preserved as part of a more complete cultural record of the Khyber’s recent history. The project will result in accessible digital and public-facing resources that strengthen and expand documentation of artistic and cultural contributions in Nova Scotia.
