With this exhibition Ahlfors presents the Tango as an aspect of Finnish culture. Visiting Argentinean musicians and dancers brought the tango to Europe in the early twentieth century and by the thirties it had spread throughout Europe.
With an added Finnish and Russian flavour the tango has remained popular in Finland ever since - perhaps because the dance conveys passionate feelings of love, jealousy and longing which resonate deep within the Finnish disposition. The installation will also feature music that will help to recreate a hazy, midsummer Finnish barn dance environment.
