Ottawa artist Helen Verbanz will be exhibiting a series of photographs in the library gallery at the Khyber.
Presented will be the series entitled Ice/Fishing, consisting of three mural-size black and white photographs of several smaller black and white photographs. These images of an ice fishing village were taken by the artist on Lac Des Deux Montagnes in Quebec. Verbanz presents minimalistic images of the ice fishing huts on the landscape and uses the physical features of the site as metaphors for the temporality and transience of the community which resides there during the winter. Her photographs construct a sense of the fragility of man's dependency upon nature.
